The manufacturer specifies the mounting points of the towbar on the vehicle, as well as the clearance required at the back. In addition, the maximum towing weights and allowable vertical weight on the towball is specified by the manufacturer of the vehicle, not the towbar manufacturer. Note the specific allowable weights for your towbar on the manufacturer’s ID plate – usually found on the female socket attachment plate next to the towball.
In terms of the electronic interface with the vehicle: most modern vehicles have on-board management computers that monitor the power usage of the vehicle. It is therefore in most cases impossible to just draw power directly off the brake or indicator lights, as the vehicle management system will flag it as a potential short or globe failure on the vehicle.
